The communal religious life has been a powerful impulse in Western European civilization ever since its ideals were born in the eastern desert in the fourth century AD; and it has been a continuous tradition still of significance for the million or more religious in the communities today. But it was between 1000 and 1300 that the monastic life took more formal shape and ther grew up many flourishing communities which built in stone houses for God and lodgings for themselves and recorded their faith in manuscripts, in sculpture, metal and wood. By exploring the literature and the visible legacy of the monastic life, Professor Brooke demonstrates the close relationship in it between the spiritual and temporal, the interdependence of monarch, church and subject. Absorbing its aspirations from Egypts and Syria, the movement was given its tradional form by St. Benedict. Then came the twelfth-century renaissance, a time of revitalizing ideas, of argument and discussion, when new orders arose as part of an ascetic and puritan reaction and from the inspiration of men lik St. Bernard of Clairvaux. This was the heyday of monasticism, when every village or hamlet in Western Europe was within a day's pilgrimage to an abbey, monastry, convent or other communal house. Those discussed in this book - ruined, abandoned, their function changed, or still devoted to God and their buildings added to throughout the centuries - can only be a sample, but a wide-ranging one, drawn from many orders. By examining the history and, where possible, the physical layout of such famous houses as Mont-St-Michel, Cluny, Chartreuse, Reichenau, Hirsau, Maria Laach, Assisi, Sant'Ambrogio, Santiago de Compostela, Poblet, Fountains and Rievaulx, we can catch an echo of that extraordinary movement of the human spirit at its most flourishing moment and its importance to Western civilization. Ik heb nooit onder de motorkap gekeken maar ben er vrij zeker van dat de humbucker een Dimarzio super distortion is. De humbucker is ook splitbar. De pickups kunnen geschakeld worden met 3 mini toggle switches. Waardoor alle combinaties mogelijk zijn. Dit bied een breed pallet aan verschillende tonen aan. Heel gaaf. Fret werk is 100% in orde. Gitaar is 100% origineel. Tevens is volume en tone regelbaar op alle combinaties. De hals is slank en super snel en ik bedoel echt snel. Voor de shredders onder ons een droom hals. Deze gitaar speelt alle stijlen maar schreeuwt natuurlijk rock en metal. Klinkt als een klok. Uiteraard zijn er de normale kleine gebruikers sporen. Maar dat is logisch naar 25 jaar. Een echte vintage rock gitaar uit de jaren 80. Bij mij thuis uit te proberen over een Marshall JCM 900 4502 of neem je eigen versterker mee
